About the Founders
Stephanie A. Johnson-Cunningham has over 15 years experience in the museum field. She works to paint a larger portrait of the arts and culture sector as well as challenge racial inequities throughout the arts ecosystem. Her advocacy aligns with Museum Hue, supporting Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color. Stephanie received the Americans for the Arts 2019 American Express Emerging Leader Award and was also a United Nations Human Rights fellow. She works to apply the UN’s ratification of cultural rights to her work and calls for greater recognition and representation in the arts industry. She has written about her work for Curator: The Museum Journal, Museums and Social Issues Journal, and the Center for the Future of Museums. As the United Sta sdsdftes reckons with a legacy of structural racism, oppression, and discriminatory policies and practices; Stephanie centers cultural equity as an essential part of achieving social justice. She holds a Bachelors degree in Art and Art History from Brooklyn College and a Masters degree in Cultural Heritage and Preservation Studies from Rutgers University.
Monica Montgomery is an arts and culture innovator using creativity and social change as a means of bridging the gap between people and movements. Monica recently delivered a TedX talk in Charlottesville entitled ‘How To Be an Upstander’ challenging everyone to stand up, speak up and act up for social good. Monica is a museum activist, curator and cultural consultant, holding a Bachelors of Arts in Broadcast Communication from Temple University and a Masters of Arts in Corporate Communication from LaSalle University. She is an assistant professor in the Museum Studies graduate schools of Pratt Institute and New York University, and Harvard University, creator of the course Museums, Public Programs & Social Change. As co founder and strategic director of Museum Hue, she advocates for people of color in arts, culture and museums, working nationally to train leaders and partner with museums to facilitate diversity, equity & inclusion initiatives. Additionally, Monica is the founding director of Museum of Impact the world’s first mobile social justice museum, curating exhibits and festivals at the intersection of art, activism, social movements.

Stephanie Johnson-Cunningham
Executive Director
Stephanie Johnson-Cunningham (she/her) is Executive Director of Museum Hue. Under her leadership, the organization launched HueArts New York, the only statewide effort to amplify the needs and impact of arts entities founded and led by Black, Indigenous, Latino, Asian, and all people of color across the state. She has been on the forefront of developing invaluable resources that deepens public knowledge and understanding of these arts entities. Her leadership has also propelled the organization into a nationally recognized and trusted source with museums and academic institutions that utilize Museum Hue to learn more about the arts field. Stephanie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Art History from Brooklyn College and a Masters degree in Cultural Heritage and Preservation Studies (CHAPS) from Rutgers University. She also received the Americans for the Arts’ “American Express Emerging Leader Award” for her contributions to arts equity in the field.
Adrienne Lei
Deputy Director
Adrienne Lei (she/her) is Deputy Director of Museum Hue. A longtime supporter and attendee of Museum Hue’s programs from its early beginnings, Adrienne is honored to serve as a senior manager in charge of the organization’s business operations and fiscal stewardship. She joins Museum Hue with more than two decades of experience in nonprofit arts and culture, most recently in museum administration and public programs at the Frick Collection and its temporary location, Frick Madison—where Museum Hue members toured a groundbreaking exhibition of portrait paintings by Barkley L. Hendricks in 2023. Adrienne completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Amherst College, with a dual focus in Fine Arts (art and art history) and Asian Languages & Civilizations, and also holds a Master of Arts from the Program in Arts Administration at Columbia University Teacher’s College.
Brittany Bellinger
Director of Programs & Innovation
Brittany Bellinger (she/they) is Director of Programs and Innovation at Museum Hue. As a native New Yorker with a deep love for arts and culture, she is passionate about leading initiatives that amplify and support Museum Hue’s mission. She brings over a decade of experience in nonprofit management, youth programming, and community development, with a focus on creating programs that foster equity and sustainability in the cultural sector. Prior to joining Museum Hue, she served as Program Director at Youth Design Center, where she oversaw strategic program planning and implementation. She has also held roles in arts education, organizational development, and communications, bringing a multidisciplinary approach to her work. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs & Urban Planning from SUNY Empire State College and a Master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Baruch College.
