SUMMARY:Museum Hue Virtual Town Hall
DESCRIPTION:Join Museum Hue for a free virtual town hall as we usher in our 10th year anniversary. We will share our strategic plan\, ongoing projects\, and unveil HueCultures Northeast—the first phase of a national research initiative to amplify\, map\, and connect culturally-specific institutions led by Black\, Indigenous\, Latino/x\, Asian\, and all People of Color. Building on the success of HueArts New York City and New York State\, this project highlights an additional 150 cultural institutions in the Northeastern United States that play a vital role in preserving and celebrating our history. \nThis town hall is an opportunity for arts professionals\, cultural workers\, researchers\, and arts advocates to come together\, learn\, and be part of a larger movement toward equity in the cultural sector. In addition to an exclusive first look at new research findings and insights\, we’ll raise awareness of museums and cultural centers shaping the region\, and share thoughts with others invested in this work. Stephanie Johnson-Cunningham\, Executive Director of Museum Hue\, will lead the discussion and will be joined by guest speakers.   \nRSVP today and join us in this important conversation! \nThis event will be ASL interpreted on Zoom for participants from the Deaf\, hard-of-hearing\, and ASL communities. SUMMARY:Climate Change Facilities and Programming
DESCRIPTION:Building in anticipation of climate change involves designing and constructing museums with the future impacts of climate change in mind. This proactive approach aims to enhance resilience reduce vulnerability\, and mitigate the potential negative effects of changing climatic conditions. \nDesigned by Caples Jefferson Architects and completed in 2014\, Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn was designed to be a balance between the existing\, 19th-century houses of the largest free Black communities in pre-Civil War America and to create a new 23\,000 sq ft complex that would include a museum and state of the art exhibition\, performance\, and education facilities. The buildings gravitate around the central landscaped area where past and present face each other and are bound together by the ever-changing farmland vegetation that evokes the agricultural heritage of the community. \nThe Climate Museum is the first museum in the United States dedicated to the climate crisis. Over the last five years\, the Museum has presented eight exhibitions and more than 300 events; engaged 350+ high school students in leadership\, advocacy\, and arts programs; and welcomed more than a hundred thousand visitors in-person and many more online. As the climate crisis intensifies\, so does the need for communal spaces where we can all gain understanding and resolve. The Climate Museum makes inclusive dialogue and immersive cultural programming on climate accessible to a broad public. \nThe Wild Center’s Youth Climate Program (YCP) is a global initiative that works to convene\, inspire\, and network young people through youth climate summits\, empowering them to lead and act on climate change solutions in their schools and communities. At the center of the program is a two-day retreat\, the annual Adirondack Youth Climate Summit that brings together over 200 high school and college students to learn about climate change. As a science-based organization\, The Wild Center is deeply concerned about how changes in one of the major pillars that support the natural world will impact life on Earth. From Youth Climate Summits to creating solutions to environmental issues through our Building a Greener Adirondacks initiative\, The Wild Center is making strides toward a sustainable future. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Advocacy Accelerator: The Government and Your Arts Organization
DESCRIPTION:Our elected officials play a vital role in funding the arts and changing policy to increase the public’s access to more arts programming. New York City Council Member Chi Ossé and New York Senator José M. Serrano\, State Arts & Culture chairs\, will join Museum Hue for the first session of Advocacy Accelerator on Wednesday\, November 1. During Government and Your Arts Organization\, Chi Ossé and José M. Serrano will discuss the New York government’s critical role in supporting the arts. The City Council allocated $34.4 million to support programs funded through The Department of Cultural Affairs. Attendees will learn how the DCLA uses this funding to support the arts through funding applications\, holding hearings\, and how testimonies impact their work. It’s crucial that Black\, Indigenous\, Latinx\, Asian\, and all People of Color arts leaders are better informed and engaged on how government can address disparities through funding and policies. \nABOUT ADVOCACY ACCELERATOR \nMuseum Hue announces Advocacy Accelerator: A Workshop Series That Champions Change. Advocacy Accelerator is a three-part virtual workshop series envisioned and developed through our HueArts reports research and recommendations. In response to the needs of the 400+ HueArts entities — Black\, Indigenous\, Latinx\, Asian\, and all People of Color-led and founded arts organizations —  Advocacy Accelerator demystifies the lobbying process for these organizations by providing actionable steps and resources so that they can learn how to champion their organizations through government advocacy. Throughout the series\, city and state elected officials\, government staffers\, and attorneys will discuss the government’s critical role in supporting the arts and illuminate the process of government outreach\, funding applications\, and collective advocacy.  \n  \n  \n
