Sierra is the former co-president of the National Emerging Museum Professionals Network and an alum of the NYCMER (New York City Museum Educator Roundtable) Board. In her free time\, Sierra can be found reading\, visiting a museum\, or at an NYC Dig Inn. \nElla Cohen\, Director of Legacy and Internship Programs\, DreamYard Project \nElla Cohen (she/her) is the Director of Legacy and Internship Programs at DreamYard Project in the Bronx. In this role\, she designs\, implements\, and oversees work-based learning programs that increase access and equity within\, to\, and through the arts for NYC youth. SUMMARY:Advocacy Accelerator: The Government and Your Arts Organization
DESCRIPTION:Our elected officials play a vital role in funding the arts and changing policy to increase the public’s access to more arts programming. New York City Council Member Chi Ossé and New York Senator José M. Serrano\, State Arts & Culture chairs\, will join Museum Hue for the first session of Advocacy Accelerator on Wednesday\, November 1. During Government and Your Arts Organization\, Chi Ossé and José M. Serrano will discuss the New York government’s critical role in supporting the arts. The City Council allocated $34.4 million to support programs funded through The Department of Cultural Affairs. Attendees will learn how the DCLA uses this funding to support the arts through funding applications\, holding hearings\, and how testimonies impact their work. It’s crucial that Black\, Indigenous\, Latinx\, Asian\, and all People of Color arts leaders are better informed and engaged on how government can address disparities through funding and policies. \nABOUT ADVOCACY ACCELERATOR \nMuseum Hue announces Advocacy Accelerator: A Workshop Series That Champions Change. SUMMARY:Preserving Our Historical Sites
DESCRIPTION:Join Museum Hue on Saturday\, October 28th\, 2023 at the Albany Institute for Preserving Our Historical Sites panel discussion. There will be a light breakfast hour from 9:00am – 10:00am\, and a panel discussion from 10:00am – 12:00pm.  \nMuseum Hue has been working on providing programming which stems from the research\, findings and recommendations in the HueArts NYS Brown Paper report\, which highlights the importance of physical space and built environment for POC-led arts stability. The core of this program stems from the need for the creation of more opportunities that allow place-based POC-led arts entities to continue supporting their communities. We are focusing on Preserving Our Historical Sites for this program as we are interested in amplifying the storied history of not only NYS\, but specifically the capital region.  \nStephanie Woodard from the Rapp Road Historical Association will be highlighting how the Rapp Road Historical District was established and how it aligns with the Great Migration. Lacey Wilson\, Public Historian of the Albany African American History Project\, will be sharing insight into the project and work at the Albany Institute of History and Art. Mary Liz Stewart\, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Underground Railroad Education Center will also discuss specific case studies in regards to the Underground Railroad movement and the direct ties to the Capital Region. The conversation will be moderated by Cjala Surratt\, Co-Founder of Black Artist Collective. This program is free for Museum Hue Members and $10.00 for non-members.  \n

This workshop will cover an overview of best practices for writing resumes\, a cover letter tailored to your intended role in the arts\, and best practices during the job application process. This session will also review sample resumes and have time for a Q&A with experts in the field. Attendees will hear from Meghan Hillman\, Program Manager at the National Council on Public History\, and Kathleen Powers Conti\, a Public Historian and Preservation Professional\, on their experiences and best tips for navigating this process. Resources and the program recording will be available following the live Zoom session. \nABOUT THE HUENIVERSITY CAREER JUMPSTART \nMuseum Hue’s Hueniversity Career Jumpstart is a program of virtual workshops that uplift emerging Black\, Indigenous\, Asian\, Latinx\, and all People of Color  in the arts and culture field. This series is part of the next phase of HueArts NYC and NYS\, responding to the need for increased professional development opportunities for current and future BIPOC arts workers. The series of workshops consist of conversations and presentations led by experts in the field who will provide insight into their career path\, offering tools centering how to build a network\, resume and cover letter writing\, internship preparation\, and more. Recordings\, best practices resource guide\, and informative tool-kit from each session will be available on our website.  The series will culminate with an in-person networking event for participants to interact with fellow emerging arts professionals and have the opportunity to build relationships with experts in the industry. This program provides actionable next steps to support emerging arts professionals seeking guidance on how to navigate the arts and culture space. DESCRIPTION:Join Museum Hue for our next Hueseum Tour at Frick Madison\, 945 Madison Avenue at 75th Street\nNew York\, NY 10021 on October 6 from 5 – 7 pm. Attendees will begin in The SisterYard\, the Frick Madison’s onsite cafe\, on the LG level (downstairs from the Lobby/entry level) at 5:00 p.m. followed by an exclusive after hours tour of Barkley L. Hendricks: Portraits at the Frick from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. \nBarkley L. Hendricks (1945–2017) revolutionized contemporary portraiture with his vivid depictions of Black subjects that emphasize the dignity and individuality of his sitters. Beginning in the late 1960s\, his work drew from and challenged traditions of European art\, and The Frick Collection—with its iconic portraits by Rembrandt\, Bronzino\, Van Dyck\, and others—was one of his favorite museums. \nThe exhibition\, “celebrates and explores the remarkable work of this pioneering American painter with an unprecedented display of paintings drawn from private and public collections.” Organized by Aimee Ng\, Curator at the Frick\, and Consulting Curator Antwaun Sargent\, Barkley L. Hendricks: Portraits at the Frick considers the complex place of European painting in Hendricks’s art and the evolving role of the Frick in modern American culture. \nThis tour is free for Museum Hue members\, and non-members must pay $5 admission to secure their spot. This tour only has space for 15 museumgoers due to limited spots; we urge interested attendees only to register if they are confident of availability on October 6\, from 5 — 7 pm. Attendees will hear from Jayde Barton\, Founder of Let Black Kids Feel LLC\, Es-pranza Humphrey\, Education Programs Coordinator/Curator\, Black Power to Black People at Poster House\, and Rachel Maria Stuart\, Assistant Development Officer for Leadership Gifts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, who all have experience navigating these areas throughout their own career pathways.
